Two Brothers Dock for Kidnapping ibn Lagos


Officers of the Lagos State Police Command on Friday docked two brothers identified as Olayinka Jagbojagbo (38), and Kabiru Jagbojagbo (30), before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court for alleged kidnapping and robbery.
The defendants, who reside at 26, Jagbojagbo Villa, Erode in Epe area of the state, are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, robbery, kidnapping and attempt to escape before Magistrate Abimbola Komolafe.
Inspector Iranus Nnamonu, the police prosecutor, told the court that the defendants and others now at large, committed the crime in January, 2013, at about 3:20pm, at 26, Jagbojabo Villa Erode, in Epe area of the state.
The prosecutor alleged that the accused and others at large collected the sum of N8,500,000 as ransom from ZTM Nigeria Limited, for the release of one of their staff, Mr. Kuang Vingjiun, a Chinese national, who was kidnapped at Osborne Road in Ikoyi.
Nnamonu said that the accused persons and other members of the gang got the sum of N200,000 each from the ransom money.
The prosecutor also alleged that the suspects used parts of the money to purchase charms for themselves and members of their gang, from one Taiwo Aduloju, in order to escape arrest.
Nnamonu further alleged that the accused persons were also responsible for the kidnapping of one Ilogbonu Kingsley Ifeanyi on May 13, 2013, between 6pm and 7pm, at 26, Jagbojagbo Villa Erode, in Epe area of the state.
He alleged that the defendants unlawfully kept the victim for four days in their house and also in an uncompleted building at Imokun area of Epe, until a ransom of N500,000 was paid for his release.
The prosecutor said the offences were contrary to and punishable under section 409, 16 (B) (C) (D) and 269 (1) (2) of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge.
Magistrate Komolafe granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties each, one of which must be a landlord in Lagos state.
He added that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendants, show payment of tax and a verifiable address to be confirmed by the police.
She adjourned the case till September 17, 2013, for hearing.
