Lagos violence: Police arrest suspects, beef up security

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested over 40 suspects believed to have perpetrated the violence in Akoka and Pedro areas of Somolu/Bariga which left 100 vehicles vandalized and many others injured on Monday.
As  reported on Tuesday that gang  hoodlums known as the EFCC Boys    numbering about 100   on revenge mission in the guise of doing a candlelight procession for a member of the notorious gang who was injured by a member of a rival group attacked some streets in the area stealing ,looting ,robbing and vandalized properties especially automobiles worth over 1Billion Naira.
It was  learnt that after the attack, policemen from Alade,CMS Bariga ,Pedro assisted by Policemen from Area H Command Ogudu stormed the hideouts of some of the suspects and arrested them.
A senior police officer, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said the arrests were made during separate raids carried out by the Bariga Police Division as well as the Pedro Police Division.
The officer however added that after screening, those who were not found culpable would be released.
It was learnt that one of the suspects, who was identified only as Feso, had been arrested by men of the Pedro Division sometimes  last year and escaped with a Police Handcuff.
It was learnt that Feso had been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja for further investigation while the other suspects were transferred to the Area H Command, Ogudu.
Meanwhile the Police are still on the lookout for some members of the gang , Rasaki Oseni aka Elewure,Rasaki Oseni aka Osanle,Kunle Atunrase aka Eyin bouncing,Yesiru Adesanya ,Okanlawon Oluwa aka okla,Olumide Ogbor ,Jamiu Ologun,Kabiru aka omo ese,Stephen .
Others are Seun aka Igbinabaro ,Mayowa Adekunle aka Saunpaul,BB,Yomi aka Adoand,Sodiq Adesanya,they are the leaders of the EFCC Boys and cultist  whose names are with the Police
A resident, Yussuf Tapa said it was the unconcerned attitude of Policemen especially the former DPO of Alade Division SP Busari Okunola that gave room to the renewed activities of the hoodlums,he said most of the hoodlums have relocated away from Somolu not until two of them returned from jail to form unholy alliance with the DPO through a female Police Assistant Superintendent who is their area mother.He said though the Police have been carrying out raids He however urged the police to go to the hideouts of the suspects and not to confine the raids to motor parks.
He said, “The policemen have not yet gone to raid Ajose ,Okoh Close,Salami,Fagbeyiro Odubanjo,Sodimu,Olabiran,Agbole Somolu  areas especially the canals where the hoodlums hang out as well as Anifowoshe, Olorunkemi, Popoola,Majiyagbe  and Bajulaiye. Those hoodlums usually hang out in these places and the police should raid there rather than confine their raids to parks
When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the arrests. She however said she did not know the number of suspects arrested.
