cross carpeting from PDP to ACN
The Councillor representing Ward D in Somolu Local Government in Somolu could cross over to the Ruling ACN from PDP any moment from now
Show of shame or show of power?
Was it just sheer show of superior gun power? What could have led the police n NSCDC officials to clash over protecting oil pipeline at Ikorodu on Wednesday morning? There has been allegation and counter allegation. NSCDC alleged two of its officers were killed by the police while the police alleged NSCDC attacked their men. What does this portend for the fragile security of our country?

COMMU NITY SENDS S>O>S TO GOVERNMENT OVER POLLUTION BY INDIAN COMPANY
The residents said their lives are in danger due to chemical wastes from African Foundries, an Indian-owned steel production factory.
The resident said the factory serves as the harbinger of death to over 1,000 residents of the community and urged the government to take prompt action to save them from death.
Strangely, when the African Foundries was established about four years ago, the hope was that it would bring succour to the residents of the community as it offered employment to the people.
However, the cordial relationship between the company and the community has turned sour as the residents are sleeping with nose masks to prevent inhaling the poisonous smoke from the factory.
Others said they contacted asthma, tuberculosis among other respiratory infections due to the unchecked carbondioxide emission, which pollutes the air.
A resident, Michael Ikukoyi, said: “I’ve been living here with here with my family for about two years now due to to the frequent rent increase by my landlord in Lagos but I never envisaged the health problems that the company has brought through their lack of human feeling put on the people.
“I’ve never really enjoyed staying here due to the havoc that the company has wreaked over the years.
“The smoke from their factory always blows across the community and it has affected my health and those of other residents.
“The tunnel, which is supposed to lead the smoke out into the air, is faulty and the smoke now comes into our homes.”
Another resident, A. Ashafa, said: “Recently, there was a blast from the factory, which was reminiscent of the Ikeja cantonment bomb blast of 2002.
“This happened the day after the Ileya celebration and it shook my house to its foundation that I thought armed robbers had besieged us.”
According to another resident of Ajose community, who works in the factory: “People are injured in the factory from time to time while working and we are suffering here.
“Something has to be done very soon before we witness worse troubles.”
A community leader, Alhaji Fatai Sekoni, said: “On the 1st of october 2012, there was a blast, which lasted about 45 seconds very early in the morning and since then it has been constant vibration.
“Each time it vibrates, you will think the entire building will collapse.
“Thank God most of the buildings here are bungalows.
“I just wonder when this mess will come to an end.
“They helped us get a transformer and so what?
“They have really destroyed lives here and we don’t want them here again.
“The factory has apart from the transformer never lived up to its corporate responsibility.”
The Community Development Office, Akoni Jamiu, accused the company of reneging on the agreement it entered into.
Jamiu stated that the management of African Foundries signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the community in September 2012 to address the pollution in the community but has not kept the promise.
He said: “How do you want me to explain the fact that we sleep with protective masks at night without power supply?
“The situation is so terrible that one man in the community was rushed to the hospital in the middle of the night after suffering from suffocation from the smoke that the factory emits.
“Asthma, tuberculosis are among other ailments that people here have had to contend with over the years because of the unchecked carbondioxide from the factory.
“The residents are now appealing to both the state and federal governments to assist them before we are all killed by the smoke emanating from the factory.
“We are writing a petition to the Ministry of the Environment and other government agencies to come to our aid.
“The heap of waste from the company is hazardous but they leave it exposed.
“We need help before people start dying.”
When contacted, the Managing Director of African Foundries, C. Charmas, said the company has taken measures to halt the pollution.
Charmas said: “We have cordial relationship with the people and we have put measures in place to keep everybody safe.
“We are committed to that and we are doing everything possible to achieve the desirable results for all.”

How absentee Councillor lives in USA, collects salary in Nigeria.

Olufemi
Oluseyi Onisarootu, a two time councilor in the Shomolu Local Government Council in Lagos State has always been in the eyes of the
storm.
After the drama In 2007, where residents alleged that he was imposed on the people of Ward B of the council area by an alleged godfather who is also his uncle, this time, the residents are alleging that after Olufemi was sworn in for a second term, he has been "living large" in the United States of America.
Olufemi's alleged absence from his official duties has become a cause for concern and is causing tension among councillors in Shomolu LGA who cannot explain his whereabouts .
In an earlier complaint, the people of Ward B stated that Olufemi should not have been sworn in as their councilor since he does not reside in Shomolu but in Olateju street in Mushin.
A source in Shomolu who does not want his name mentioned asked "Can you imagine Shomolu LGA paying an absentee councilor his monthly salary and other entitlements while he is in Durkheim, USA with his family after wining a visa lottery in 2011. His account is with Skye bank."

To hush things up, it was alleged that some so called elders of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Shomolu get a certain percentage of Olufemi's salary.
Even when council chairman bpught and allocated vehicles to councilors and political officers in the LGA, Olufemi also benefited as it was collected on his behalf by his family.
It was revealed that Olufemi was initially given medical exemption letter for
three months but this has run into years. Those who complained and asked
questions on the nature of his illness where silenced.
Our source revealed that members of his (Olufemi's) family
came to move his own car away from where it was parked at the council recently.
Some days to the last local government election, Olufemi flew
into the country and left the 3rd day after he was fraudulently declared the
winner of the election. He also came for the
verdict of the tribunal after which he had not been to Nigeria but
continue to receive money through criminal connivance with the ACN.
The residents of Ward B have started
the process of recalling him.
A
PDP stewart who also spoke on the condition of anonymity said, "SinceOlufemi became a councilor for the second term, through dubious means, he has not performed his official duty up to ten (10) days in office. If it was PDP or another party that did this, ACN would have cried foul. So this is what is happening in Shomolu LGAl and nothing is going to happen since this is what
the ACN does as they believe they are in charge in Lagos State".
Noise pollution: Policemen ejected from Barrack

Two policemen were, on Wednesday, ejected from their apartments at the Pedro Police barracks in Lagos State for allegedly playing loud music.
Five policemen from the Police Provost Department allegedly broke into the rooms of the two policemen identified simply as Corporals Ebi and Peters to effect the ejection.
Policemen at the barracks said they were surprised when the team arrived at about 12noon and started removing property from the apartments.
“Trouble started for the policemen when a team of senior police officers, led by Akao, a Deputy Inspector General of Police, from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, was at the Barracks on March 5 on a tour of the barracks," an officer explained.
The DIG heard loud music coming from one of the corporals’ room and immediately ordered that he be ejected from the room with his wife and two children.
Moving to another building, he heard loud sports commentary coming from a room and the same order was given even though it was the corporal's younger brother who was listening to sport news.
At first, the policemen thought it was a joke but later saw the seriousness of the order when a letter, signed by CSP London Aloba, on March 14, 2013, with the title: “Quit Notice,” ordered the men to quit their apartments before March 20, 2013.
The letter said failure to comply could lead to forceful ejection and disciplinary action as the apartment has been assigned to other policemen.
Fair complexioned Corporal Joy was the only female among the five policemen who effected the ejection.
The policemen added that the occupants of the rooms were not at home when their apartments were broken into.
The policemen and their families had gone out but when information got to the wife of one of the affected policemen, she ran home and saw all her property outside and their door broken.
She started taking pictures of the vandalised property but the officers from the Provost Office later came back and asked her to move the property back into the room, that they have been given two more weeks to vacate but she sat down crying.
She was helpless and sad over the incident that fellow policemen could treat her husband so crudely. Policemen of the rank and file cadre expressed disappointment with the police high command for treating them with disdain.
One of them said: “This barrack needs a lot of repairs and all the DIG saw was the music.
“We need a better barracks and to be treated with dignity.”
