There is tension in the Somolu area of Lagos State as Okada riders protest extortion by the Police at Alade Division.
it started around 5.pm Wednesday the 14th of May when some Police men attached to the Alade Division of the Nigerian Police arrested an okada Rider at the Fola Agoro Junction of the Bajulaiye Road and impounded his Okada for driving on a prohibited Road.
The rider who is always dressed putting on an Army Fez cap immediately called the Military man who owns the Okada at the Morocco army spot camp..
The army boys mobilized themselves and stormed folaAgoro where the Police men where still waiting to arrest more bikes,Some okada Riders whom have long suffered from the extortion of the Policemen followed the Soldiers and beat up some of the Police men.The bike and other bikes seized by the Police Men were retrieved.
later around 7.p.m some of the okada riders rallied together at Apata bus top ,a point where the Policemen use to arrest the Okada riders.they attacked the policemen ,the Policemen ran back to their Station ,.
The following morning,the Okada Riders gathered together at Apata bus stop where they ordered other Okada Riders to stop working as they had planned to protest the incessant extortion by the police men attached to Alade Division.
They marched through the Market street singing anti police song ,when they got to Okesuna street near the police Station they stoned the Police men whom had by then retreated to their Station.
The Policemen later went to the Okada riders office when they learnt the Area boys could hijack the protest but they were attacked by some hoodlums shooting straight at the Policemen.The policemen withdrew to their station and later reinforced to quell the attack of the rampaging hoodlums
At Odunlade Street ,the Police and the hoodlums clashed again at about 11a.m.One of the policemen attempt to shoot at the hoodlums was foiled when the trigger did not pull.
Speaking with some of the protesting okada Riders ,one of them Sanmi Adebola said"we are fed up with the daily extortion of the police.Sometimes you are arrested twice in a day by different teams of Policemen from Alade Division.they collect an average of Five thousand Naira before they will give you your bike.The next moment another set arrest you and tells you to pay Ten thousand .Sometimes they tell you it is the DPO that is in charge and if you do not want it taken to Alausa you have to pay Ten Thousand Naira,."
Another Okada rider ,Raseed said "we are fed up,how much do  we make in a day,they impound our bikes always not minding the fact that you just paid them money to retrieve your bike."
According to Jamiu Ayelokun,"This Policemen are a threat to our existence.They extort on a daily basis ,they are a bunch of shameless extortionist."
Some residents said the police men have no other duty doing in Alade than extorting Okada Riders.They are no longer concerned with maintaining Law and order in the Community"said Mr Adeyemo kayode A resident.But some residents said the person representing somolu in the Lagos State House of Assembly should be blamed and not the Police.the Police are doing their Job,those roads are restricted roads.So it takes two to tango,it is a matter of rub my back i rub your back.They the riders have committed an offence driving on restricted roads while the police too felt you have to either choose between taking your bike to Alausa for grinding or you pay a particular amount
As at the time of filling this report the tension is still on though some suspects arrested have been taking to the AreaH command

Drunk Police Man kills Bussiness man

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced investigation into the murder of a Lagos-based contractor, Oyoma Edewor, who was allegedly shot dead by a police sergeant, Godwin Otene, in the FESTAC area of the state.

A friend to the deceased, Olufikunayo Manuwa, said the incident occurred on Saturday evening while the deceased was towing his vehicle, a Toyota Forerunner.

Manuwa said the 33-year-old victim had gone to Lekki, adding that the vehicle broke down on his way home.

Edewor was said to have hired a towing truck to convey his vehicle to his house in FESTAC.

It was learnt that as he was approaching his house, three policemen at a checkpoint mounted around Third Gate Bus Stop, ordered the driver, who was towing the vehicle, to stop.

The unidentified driver of the towing truck was said to have ignored the order, causing the policemen to chase them.

Manuwa said, “Oyoma was raised in FESTAC and was killed by the same people who are sworn to protect us. His car broke down and he called a towing van. While on their way, they were stopped by the police. The driver of the van refused to stop for unknown reasons.

“When he eventually stopped, the driver ran out, leaving Oyoma and his friends to deal with the police. They were asked to sit on the floor, which they did. While explaining to the officers what had happened, one of them (Otene) opened fire on Oyoma.

“A crowd, which had witnessed the incident, gathered around. The policeman said he suspected Oyoma had stolen the vehicle. However, passersby identified him as a member of the community. When the police realised the crowd was growing, they fled from the scene.

“What we heard now is that the policeman was drunk and off duty. This is not the first person being killed by the police. Oyoma must not die in vain.”

Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the killing in a statement.

Braide said the suspect, who is attached to the Area E Command, had been detained while investigations were ongoing.

She said, “The Lagos State Command has arrested one Sergeant Otene Godwin with Force Number, 355272, and attached to Area ‘E’ Command, for allegedly shooting one Oyoma Edewor.

“The incident occurred on May 10, 2014 at about 11pm along the Alakija area of FESTAC Town. Otene abandoned his duty post as the Station Guard at Area ‘E’ Command and left for the Alakija area where the unfortunate incident occurred.

“The sergeant is already in police custody and circumstances surrounding the shooting incident are being investigated. The Nigeria Police is a disciplined organisation and will never tolerate any act of indiscipline from its members.

“The Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, wishes to use this medium to appeal to members of the public to remain calm as justice will be done. He also assures the deceased family that investigation will be concluded in good time.”

The residents of Mushin today at Alausa Ikeja protested against the series of orgy of violence in their Community in which they claim the just arrested Suspects Toba Ajiboye and Adigun Oriyomi Muda are the masterminds.
The residents numbering over one thousand accused some politicians in the State of Shielding the suspects.
Residents claim Toba Ajiboye ,Adigun Shina both now in Police custody have been responsible for the spate of killings in their Community.They accuse Toba of bankrolling the activities of some cultist /hoodlums who over the years have been terrorizing the residents.

Mob beats up a policeman for shooting driver

This incident happened this afternoon along Patigi Road in Kwara State. According to eye-witnesses, the policeman tied above and a few of his colleagues stopped a driver delivering telecoms equipment to a site at Patigi and allegedly demanded for money.
When the driver refused to part with money, an argument ensued and he was shot in the arm. (You will find the graphic pic after the cut). After the shooting, a mob descended on the policemen but were only able to catch one as the others ran away.
The one caught was beaten and tied up by a mob. The last picture with blood was the driver that was shot.

APC chieftain in Ogun State Bashorun Bayo Awosanya, turned his wife into a punching bag and almost snuffed the life out of her if not for the timely intervention of the gate man.According to an eye witness who does not want his name in print, the incident occurred at his Sagamu GRA residence, around 8.30pm on the 20th of April 2014 (easter sunday),   when Bashorun returned angrily from a house-warming party and accused his wife of not attending the party with him. ‘’And before the wife could give a meaningful excuse, he pounced on her and started beating her blue and black as has been his regular act. Sensing danger, the wife made for an escape through the staircase, where he caught up with her, and started hitting her head on the glass railings, and strangulating her.’’

The wife is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the hospital.

LOVE TURNS SOUR

An Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court has ordered that a 23-year-old man, Abdulazeez Lateef, be remanded in prison for allegedly stabbing his lover, Shrifat Adisa, 40, to death.

The police said Lateef stabbed the deceased with a knife at the Mile 12 area of Lagos.

It was learnt that the duo had been dating since 2010.

Lateef, who lives on Ojoola Street, Ejigbo, was said to be a frequent caller at the deceased’s apartment.

However, things turned sore between the lovers when the Oyo State indigene visited Adisa and allegedly saw a pair of trousers in her room.

He was said to have querried his lover and taken the trousers away, while she protested.

It was learnt that some months after taking the trousers away, Lateef decided to return it.

The late Sherifat was said to have insisted that Lateef  put on the trousers first, suspecting he had cast a spell on it.

This was said to have led to an argument between them.

In a fit of anger, Lateef allegedly stormed out of the room and grabbed a knife from a trader outside the house, with which he stabbed the deceased repeatedly to death.

The investigating police officer, Inspector Okeowo John, said the defendant was arrested two days after the incident at Mile 12.

John added that the defendant confessed to the crime and was also arrested with an exhibit.

He however said there was need for further investigation.

Lateef was arraigned on one count of murder.

The charge read, “That you, Abdulazeez Lateef, on December 19, 2013, at 10am, at Alaba Market, Mile 12,  Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one Sherifat Adisa, aged 40 years, by stabbing her on the back with a knife.”

The police prosecutor, Ishola Samuel, said the offence was punishable under Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2011.

The defendant’s plea was not taken.

Samuel filed application for the remand of the defendant in prison pending the release of legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.

The magistrate, Mrs M.O Tanimola, agreed to remand Lateef in prison pending the legal advice.

The matter was adjourned till February 5, 2014.

MAN KILL:S LOVER

Olusola Akinmiwasi, 35, is currently in the custody of the Ondo State Police Command after he was accused of attacking one Oriola Akinduko with a machete in the early hours of Monday, killing him in the process.

According to a report made at the Idanre Police Station by Oriola’s elder brother, Kola Akinduko, the incident occurred at the residence of a woman known as Aina Afolabi, at Opa Road in Idanre.

Oriola and Aina were said to be making love around 1am on Monday when Akinmiwasi burst into their room through a window with a machete, inflicting deep cuts on them.

Akinmiwasi was reported to have received information that Oriola was in the house of the lady who he was apparently dating.

Although help came on time, the victims bled profusely, leading to the death of Oriola while he was being rushed to a nearby hospital.

Police Public Relations Officer, Wole Ogodo, who confirmed the incident, said the corpse had been deposited in the mortuary of the Idanre General Hospital, while Aina was receiving treatment at the same hospital.

He said, “We suspect that both men were dating the lady and someone had informed the suspect that Oriola was in that house which led to the attack.

“Oriola died on the way to the hospital because he had a deep cut on his his head, his corpse has been deposited at the mortuary while the woman is receiving treatment.”

Ogodo said the suspect had been arrested and the case transferred to the S Criminal  Investgation Department for further investigation.
