Suspected cultists have shot dead an executive of the National Union of Road Transport Worker in Lagos State.
The supremacy battle and killing by suspected cultists in Shomolu, Mushin, Yaba, Surulere and Bariga areas of the State continued unabated.

According to an eyewitness who requested anonymity, Taiye, who was the Financial Secretary of the Unit at Mushin, left the Union Toll gate office along the railway line at about 9.30pm on a motorcycle, but was shot dead before he got home.
Narrating the incident, the source said: “Taiye got to the Junction of his house but as he alighted from the okada, about ten men who had been lurking in the neighbourhood accosted him and shot sporadically at him. They watched him die and pushed his body to ensure he was dead then they fled the scene.
“After they left, residents who had scampered for safety when the gun was being fired, came out and saw his lifeless body.”
The source added that, on Wednesday, the deceased had received a phone call from some cultists who accused him of waging war against a rival gang.
“The whole killing you see is about transport workers fighting over leadership positions. They engage in cultism to gain support and provoke fear. The free and illegal money they get is the root of the killings,” the source said.
Tension in Mushin
When contacted, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Damasus Ozoani, said the police were not aware of the killing of the NURTW executive.
“I have called the Oloasan police station at Mushin and the Area Commander but they said nothing of such was reported. The police cannot work if we are not aware of a case. If indeed such a thing happened we can only act when we are aware,” he said.
Residents in the area alleged that, in recent times, four suspected cultists have been brutally murdered by rival gangs.
According to them, three of the killings took place at Kusa, Johnson and Famous in Bariga.

The CP also detained the team of policemen who brutalised her and effected her unlawful arrest.
When she spoke about her detention, Tope wept as she narrated her ordeal. She said she intends to petition the Inspector General of Police over the police maltreatment.
“I am still in fear over how the policemen treated me. It was around 1a.m. that fateful day when my 12-year-old son, Toheeb, called me on phone that some policemen had held him at gunpoint telling him to take them to his mother. I did not spend the night with my children. I went to my boyfriend’s house that night,” she narrated.
“Toheeb said the policemen  threatened to shoot him if he refused to bring them to my lover’s house. I  was at the balcony of the house waiting, when I saw the policemen. They were over twenty in 5 vehicles. I greeted them, since I know almost all of them. They asked of Bolaji, my younger brother, the last child of the family, and I told them I had not seen him in over three months. One of the policemen  was infuriated  by my answer. He jumped into the compound through the fence, bundled me through the balcony and started slapping me heavily.
Lagos CP, Umaru Manko ordered the detention of the policemen who brutalised Miss Moore.

“I could not comprehend what was happening. It was while the beating became intense I heard him say my brother killed somebody. They took me through the fence. I was injured but they pushed me into one of their waiting vehicles with a corpse. The policemen also arrested more people. They took us to the Famous Hotel where they were given some packages including beer.
“By 2:30a.m. they finally took us to the station, where I  was made to write a statement. I  was taken  into the cell. By then, I  had been totally brutalised. I even passed faeces on my body.
“I was released after paying N15,000 and promising to bring Bolaji. But I told the police after I was taken to see the Area H commander in Ogudu that Bolaji does not reside with me anymore and that ever since I  made Bolaji to work at UAC food as a technician in training but he continued to cause trouble in the neighbourhood, I had told him not to come to my house again.
“I was taken to SCID Panti but was released on Friday after spending four days in detention for a crime I know nothing about. As I am talking to you, I’m still shaken and in fear over my ordeal. I am glad to be released but I will petition the IGP and the Police Service Commission over my ordeal.”

Students, police clash in College of Education

Students, police clash in College of Education

Some students of Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, on Monday, during a protest in the school, sustained various gunshot wounds from police officers in the Epe area of Lagos.
One of the residents of the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the entire Noforija community was thrown into disarray following the incident.
The pandemonium started when the school management restrained some students from writing their exam due to non-payment of their school fees.
The school authority had earlier issued a directive that the students should complete payment of their fees in order to be eligible to sit for the first semester examinations which started yesterday.
Some students, however, complied with the directive while others did not. The reaction the school authorities barred erring students from writing the examinations, a move which the students revolted against. The affected students protested the development, disturbing the examination and causing the eligible students to abandon their examination halls.
The school Provost ordered the eligible students back to the examination halls to finish their papers, assuring them of security. The provost then called the Police, and officers were deployed to the school and they arrested some of the protesting students.
In retaliation, the students attacked the armed Police officers, which led to further fracas between both parties.
The police officers allegedly fired some shots in the air and some of the students were hit by stray bullets.
Some of the police officers were also alleged to have sustained injuries while a student whose identity is yet to be ascertained was shot in the lower part of his abdomen by one of the police officers.
A student of Computer studies who requested anonymity said the sum of N50,000 being charged as school fees in her department could not be afforded by many.
“We have pleaded with the school authority to give room for instalmental payment, which they did not consent to. Rather than settling the issue amicably, the school authority hindered many from writing the examinations and this fuelled yesterday’s crisis,” the student said.
The number of injured students could not be ascertained and the school authority is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
